Why Is Frictional Force Important?

Have you ever feel the difference between the floors inside a room or classroom and in the sport court, or on the road? Have you ever encounter a floor which is very slippery that you can’t even know how to walk on it without even falling down? Or do you even know what frictional force is?

Frictional force is a force acting on an object in a different direction from the force exerted by an object. When 2 surfaces touched, the particles that is in temporarily bonded, creates the frictional force. Frictional force is not only about the object moving on a solid medium, there is this vicious force. It’s also the same with frictional force, but kind of different species as it is applied in fluid. Fluid has a free moving molecules, which leads friction by vicious has lesser effect than friction between two solid surfaces. For example, the viscous force acting on a falling book does not make it stop from falling onto the ground. But the frictional force acting on a moving book on a table make it stop right before the book is about to fall.

People do their daily activities such as traveling, working, and exercising. We all know that falling inside a room onto the ceramic floor is better than falling on the rough road outside a building or onto the sport court. This is because the rougher the surface is, the bigger the friction is. For a car or vehicles to be able to exert a speed, accelerates, and stop after braking, they all need friction, Based on the Newton’s Second Law, the engine of the car exerts the force for the car to move. In the rough road, it can exert lots of friction to the object which is moving on it and it’ll be safer and easier to handle the car handle bar. Besides that when do the braking to stop, the car will definitely stop and decrease its speed. If there is no friction, the car wouldn’t stop and might hit something that cause accidents to happen.

When someone run, fall and got scratched, it is because the occurrence of friction. So why is friction important? People are living organisms that can’t just stay still. They needs to go study, move and also work so that they can survive in this world. To do all those stuff, we need friction. In walking, we push backwards so that we can move forward. But if there is no friction, it’s either we fall, or stay still, struggling to walk. In writing, if there is no friction, no matter how long and how much we try to write, the ink wouldn’t be written onto the paper. Even holding the pencil or pen is impossible because there is no friction. I guess if there is no friction, the clumsy people will get even more clumsier and the usually not clumsy people will all be clumsy.

Friction helps us in every way. We gain knowledge, being able to wander around, and get lots of experience because of the occurrence of friction. Thanks to it, we are able to control our steps in doing something, such as to either start, create, or stop something. Therefore it is important to have frictional force.
